We tend to eat up the concept as it&#8217;s interpreted by Hollywood &#8212; Schwarzenegger in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Terminator<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Will Smith in<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> I, Robot<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Pixar&#8217;s <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">WALL-E<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8212; but what is the reaction when the cinematic wonder of AI tends to bleed over into our everyday lives? What then?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">AI has been <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> trending topic of 2023 thus far. No matter your field, interests, or how you prefer to receive your daily dose of information, odds are you&#8217;ve been hearing some rumblings lately.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Everyday, it&#8217;s something new, and it can be hard to keep up &#8212; even when you need to do so to the benefit of your business. But it&#8217;s important that we try, because if the past few months are any indication, the barrage will likely only intensify.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">More specifically, we owe it to you as a trusted digital marketing agency to evaluate, if any, the effect artificial intelligence will have on how brands interact with customers &#8212; and vice versa.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>When Did All Of This Ai Chatter Begin?<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Believe it or not, a lot has gone down in a very short period of time.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-3678 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.digitalstrike.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Screenshot-2023-04-05-at-2.57.01-PM.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"145\" height=\"157\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The craziness started only this past November with the public release of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/chat.openai.com\/chat?__cf_chl_tk=3jXIQHsk6A8lSEenHJGHsNGjc7NfVju._oclBZQPujE-1678301680-0-gaNycGzNDJA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ChatGPT<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a natural language processing chatbot developed by OpenAI, the Silicon Valley artificial intelligence research laboratory founded in 2015 by a group of notable entrepreneurs headlined by Elon Musk and Peter Thiel.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fast forward to today, and ChatGPT boasts well over 100 million users since its launch, making it the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/technology\/chatgpt-sets-record-fastest-growing-user-base-analyst-note-2023-02-01\/?ref=near-media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">fastest-growing consumer application<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in history.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To put that number into perspective, it took TikTok roughly nine months \u2013 and Instagram nearly three years \u2013 to gain as many users as ChatGPT did in fewer than 90 days.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Why Is Chatgpt Such A Big Deal?<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Directly correlated to the growth of ChatGPT is its unprecedented effectiveness.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The premise is simple: Ask ChatGPT a question or give it a command, and it provides you with a response. More often than not, a very, very good response.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Need to write an essay on the economic implications of the Renaissance period? ChatGPT will formulate an outline for you.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Owner of a new LLC and need a set of brand guidelines and help with messaging? ChatGPT will give your company a full-blown identity in seconds.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A weekend project warrior? ChatGPT will walk you through a step-by-step guide on how to seal your driveway, complete with a list of materials needed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">AI chatbots are nothing new, but the pride-and-joy of OpenAI \u2013 owner of the world\u2019s fifth-most powerful supercomputer \u2013 has wowed Fortune 500 CEOs, Web developers, digital marketing aficionados, researchers, journalists, lawyers, doctors \u2013 generally, anyone who has a question or a problem to solve.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ChatGPT is able to process virtually any prompt in existence with lightning-quick speed. Additionally, the accuracy with which it produces results is staggering.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The platform\u2019s exhilarating debut, though, has not been without its \u201cmeh\u201d moments.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Built upon a family of large language models (LLM), ChatGPT is trained using a process called<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/innodata.com\/quick-concepts-rlhf\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">reinforcement learning from human feedback<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (RLHF), which is both a blessing and a curse.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Undoubtedly the primary reason for ChatGPT\u2019s rapid ascent, RLHF is unmatched among AI models in its ability to align with human intent, but it\u2019s also directly responsible for what have easily been the platform\u2019s most scrutinized shortcomings, including incidences of dangerous misinformation, altogether nonsensical answers, blatant racism, and<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/videos\/business\/2023\/02\/17\/bing-chatgpt-chatbot-artificial-intelligence-ctn-vpx-new.cnn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">downright creepiness<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The latest iteration of the platform, ChatGPT-4, has since been released in an attempt to eradicate these bugs. It is reportedly 10 times more powerful than its predecessor, GPT-3.5, notably able to better understand context and determine nuance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">OpenAI has also begun monetizing the platform through its ChatGPT Plus subscription service, which provides users with uninterrupted use, even during peak hours, faster response times, and priority access to new features, all for $20 per month.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Has There Been Any Chatgpt Fallout?<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yes, but the dust from ChatGPT\u2019s arrival is starting to settle \u2026 sort of.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In February, Microsoft, which formed a billion-dollar partnership with OpenAI in 2019, announced<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2023\/02\/07\/microsoft-launches-the-new-bing-with-chatgpt-built-in\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the integration of the chatbot<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> platform into its Bing search engine, confirming reports that initially surfaced in early January.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When the announcement dropped, Google had already been<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/01\/20\/technology\/google-chatgpt-artificial-intelligence.html?partner=slack&amp;smid=sl-share\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">sweating bullets for weeks<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> over the implications of ChatGPT\u2019s sudden emergence, not the least of which is the imminent threat it poses to Google\u2019s decades-long dominance as the Web\u2019s utmost provider of information upon demand.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ChatGPT operating as a lone rogue was troublesome enough, but working intimately with the chief rival? Google\u2019s hand has been forced. Standing idly by would inevitably give way to ascenario that Google hasn\u2019t had a reason to consider since Bing\u2019s launch in 2009: losing market share.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Enter Google Bard, the name assigned to Google\u2019s answer to OpenAI\u2019s ChatGPT marriage with Bing, and the first of what Google has said could be more than 20 new AI-centri<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">c projects forthcoming. Those projects have already started rolling out, with Google announcing in March that<\/span><a style=\"font-size: inherit; background-color: #ffffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/searchengineland.com\/google-generative-ai-coming-to-docs-gmail-in-workspace-394250?mkt_tok=NzI3LVpRRS0wNDQAAAGKg3lTyYDsLduuPK2Y4OqorAEfHRvUXq0sJnG4qvZHLVa53JI6Bl4QZ1ssQjs51Z1-g62k7KuAcWpFgt-p4ac9oaH-8iUARrQdIzhf29WLpEHz4Q\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> AI updates<\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> have been made to Google Docs and Gmail.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-3680 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.digitalstrike.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Screenshot-2023-04-05-at-2.59.58-PM-300x102.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"276\" height=\"94\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.digitalstrike.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Screenshot-2023-04-05-at-2.59.58-PM-300x102.png 300w, https:\/\/www.digitalstrike.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Screenshot-2023-04-05-at-2.59.58-PM.png 390w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 276px) 100vw, 276px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Impressive in its own right, Bard looks identical to ChatGPT, but that\u2019s where most of the similarities end. Whereas ChatGPT\u2019s training data comes with a cutoff date of 2021 (OpenAI has since created a plugin to help with this), Bard is able to pull real-time data from Google Search. One (ChatGPT) is a conversational tool that thrives at assistance with specific tasks, while the other (Bard) is more suitable for quickly pooling informational sources.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Still, each AI system has drawn the<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/searchengineland.com\/google-bard-first-looks-394583?mkt_tok=NzI3LVpRRS0wNDQAAAGKp4XdAgTq587a2b3U6cykn9yPrZOP-KG81sbCwaujBAXWHVoqSdVcaWyMo7CEAEZ3leVJ9Jr5drnBan-m3MnsJK1-V5qxdYVsBZKLIe2Xhc_w6Q\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">same early-stage criticism<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for gaffes that are comical at best and, at worst, downright embarrassing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kinks to iron out and all, any way you slice it, the AI arms race is underway. And the biggest names are officially off the starting line.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Apple and Meta have joined the fun, both reportedly working on AI tools. And then there\u2019s the countless other brands that have piled on thanks to the newly-released GPT-4 API, which gives developers access to OpenAI\u2019s technology to build any application that seeks to understand and generate natural language, code, or images.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Early examples of this have been everything from<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/futurimedia.com\/solutions\/audioai\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">AI-powered a<\/span>udio solutions<\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (AudioAI, formerly RadioGPT) and language learning apps (Duolingo) to productivity tools (Slack) and familiar social media outlets (Snapchat).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The next 6-12 months should be incredibly interesting, if for no other reason that we\u2019ll get a deeper and deeper glimpse into the true versatility of AI technology, for better or worse.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Are There Larger Implications Of Ai?<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This depends upon how you view artificial intelligence, specifically the role it should \u2013 or should not \u2013 play in our everyday lives.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Proponents of ChatGPT are head over heels, proclaiming the platform as the future of, well, basically everything \u2013 from the cure for boredom to writing sophisticated computer code.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Speaking of boredom, nothing cures that like receiving real-time instructions on how to<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.springboard.com\/blog\/news\/chatgpt-revolution\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">remove a peanut butter sandwich<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from a VCR \u2013 all written in the style and tone of a verse from the King James version of the Bible. ChatGPT was able to provide this in a matter of seconds, by the way.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Opponents are more wary of the technology than downright dismissive. For them, AI so advanced has its place, primarily in the form of making previously tedious tasks a mere afterthought. But if we let it go too far, they fear that ChatGPT will overstep its virtual boundaries and unleash a wide-ranging arsenal of unintended consequences.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some of these are likely, perhaps inevitable (e.g. college students cheating on papers). Others, however, are<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/watcher.guru\/news\/chatgpt-powered-bing-tells-new-york-times-reporter-it-wants-to-be-alive\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">utterly frightening and depressing<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, more reminiscent of a dystopian nightmare.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One of ChatGPT\u2019s largest skeptics is none other than Musk, who left the board of OpenAI in 2018 over concerns about the organization\u2019s move toward a for-profit model.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Earlier this year, Musk, who no longer owns a stake in the company, told<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2023\/02\/15\/elon-musk-co-founder-of-chatgpt-creator-openai-warns-of-ai-society-risk.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">attendees at the World Government Summit<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in Dubai that AI needs to be regulated and poses \u201ca bigger risk to society than cars or planes or medicine.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These sentiments have since been<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/world\/chat-artificial-intelligence-safety-protocols-1.6794454#:~:text=Elon%20Musk%20and%20a%20group,risks%20to%20society%20and%20humanity\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">echoed in an open letter<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> issued by the non-profit Future of Life. More than 1,000 artificial intelligence experts, including Musk, signed the letter as a call to halt all further AI development for a period of six months to allow for the creation and implementation of safety protocols.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Days later, Italy became the first Western country to ban all use of ChatGPT, citing privacy concerns, and vowed to investigate whether the platform fails to comply with General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) standards.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ChatGPT is already banned in a handful of Eastern countries, including China, Iran, North Korea, and Russia.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>How Will Ai Affect Digital Marketing?<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Artificial intelligence will affect digital marketing in that it will greatly influence how marketers perform their duties. But it\u2019s not meant to altogether supplant those marketers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Consider the words of Samyutha Reddy, Head of Enterprise Marketing at<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jasper.ai\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jasper<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a generative AI platform \u2014 and OpenAI partner \u2014 that specializes in helping businesses produce content of any form, including but not limited to blog posts, product descriptions, short stories, ad copy, and social media posts:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAI augments the human experience, but it doesn\u2019t replace the human within that experience.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is a palpable fear among digital marketers that AI will render our jobs obsolete. Since the release of ChatGPT, users have shown no indication that they intend to use it for what they\u2019ve entrusted to Google and Bing for more than two decades.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Together, the two are responsible for more than 9.4 billion searches per day worldwide, according to the most recent reports. When it comes to getting information that matters in the moment &#8212; breaking news, product research before a purchase, reviews on local businesses, etc. &#8212; people are not cozying up to AI.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The keys to online success prior to ChatGPT were as follows: a clean website, informative, helpful content, and high levels of website authority.
