About Us

River City Youth Football and Cheer League (RCYFL) was formed in 2014 as a 501(c)(3) corporation.  RCYFL is a competitive football and cheering organization in Richmond, VA.  It is a primary purpose of RCYFL to provide a strong environment to implant firmly in the minds of the youth of our community respect for authority, good sportsmanship, the understanding of fair play, honesty, loyalty, courage, and reverence. A continual commitment to this goal is also a primary expectation for the coaches, parents, and players who participate.

RCYFL offers the following differences from most leagues in the area:

1.      Divisions based on ages

2.      A compressed football season schedule

RCYFL has developed divisions based on ages.  We believe that building teams based on age group is important in the safety of the game as all kids mature.  The divisions offered can be found on the main menu.

RCYFL will offer a compressed football season schedule.  The preseason will begin in mid-August and end in mid-November.  There will be a minimum 8 game season ending in the playoffs or a bowl game between similar record opponents.  “Wednesday Night Lights” is a special game for the players to participate in during the season that will enable us to compress the season by one week.

RCYFL is currently accepting applications for associations and individual teams interested in playing in the 2015 season.  RCYFL offers the status of Full Participant and Partial Participant.  As per our By-laws, the statuses are defined as follows:

4.2       Full Participants.  A full participant shall be defined as an Association that participates in the League with all of their teams.  A full participant Association shall receive full status to include one (1) Director at-large position on the Board of Directors, one (1) position on the Football Committee, and one (1) position on the Cheer Committee.  Each Association’s members shall adhere to the Purposes, as defined in the Articles of Incorporation, of this Corporation in order to maintain its participation in the League.

4.3       Partial Participants.  A partial participant shall be defined as an Association that participates in the League with one or more of their teams.  A partial participant association shall have no voting privileges in the League.  Each Association’s members shall adhere to the Purposes, as defined in the Articles of Incorporation, of this Corporation in order to maintain its participation in the League.
